All The New Movies Coming to Streaming This Week
This week sees the theatrical release of two major films, Abigail and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Although, it’s arguably an even bigger week on the streaming front, with the PVOD release of the biggest movie of the year, the thrilling conclusion to Zack Snyder‘s sci-fi epic, and a controversial horror flick headlined by one of Hollywood’s top rising stars.

Luc Besson, the celebrated director of Léon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, and Lucy, returns with his first movie in four years: DogMan. Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class) stars as Doug Munrow, a young man who was the victim of his father’s abuse and only found solace through his love of dogs. Doug now spends his days performing weekly as a drag queen, while also stealing jewelry and expensive artifacts alongside his trusted canine companions. He soon decides to become a vigilante alongside his dogs, seeking revenge on those who have wronged him. DogMan also stars Jojo T. Gibbs (Civil War), Christopher Denham (Oppenheimer), Clemens Schick (Andor), and newcomer Grace Palma.

As the war for Arrakis rages on, Paul and Lady Jessica uncover a devastating secret about their lineage, as the former begins to descend down a dark path. Sweeney stars as Cecilia, a young American nun who receives an invitation to live in an Italian convent overseas. While initially overjoyed, the longer Cecilia stays, the more she begins to realize that her new home has some twisted and terrifying plans in store for her. Michael Mohan (The Voyeurs) directs the movie, which also stars Álvaro Morte (The Wheel of Time), Benedetta Porcaroli (Baby), Dora Romano (The First Omen), Giorgio Colangeli (Salty Air), and Simona Tabasco (The White Lotus).

In the Land of Saints and Sinners is the latest action vehicle starring Academy Award nominee Liam Neeson (Taken). Set in 1970s Ireland, the film follows Finbar Murphy (Neeson), a man looking to leave his dark past behind. However, when a group of terrorists arrives in his small coastal town, he must choose between keeping his past a secret or saving the lives of his new friends and neighbors. Academy Award nominee Robert Lorenz (The Marksman) directed the revenge thriller which also stars Academy Award nominee Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones), Academy Award nominee Ciarán Hinds (Belfast), Sarah Greene (Bad Sisters), and Colm Meaney (Star Trek: The Next Generation).

‘Problemista’ Review: Tilda Swinton Goes Wild in Julio Torres’ Surreal, Sweet Directorial Debut
Torres hones his sense of humor into a beautiful, empathetic look at the individual unique struggles we all face day-to-day.
Julio Torres, the creator and star of HBO’s Los Espookys, makes his directorial debut with the surrealist comedy Problemista, which hails from the widely celebrated indie studio A24. Torres plays Alejandro, an immigrant from El Salvador who is a struggling toy designer trying to make ends meet while living in the New York suburb of Bushwick. At the risk of facing deportation, Alejandro takes a demanding and daunting job working for Elizabeth (Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton), an erratic and narcissistic artist. Problemista also stars RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, Greta Lee (Past Lives), Catalina Saavedra (The Maid), James Scully (You), and Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet) as the narrator.

‘Freud’s Last Session’

Two-time Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs, The Father) stars as Sigmund Freud in the drama Freud’s Last Session. Darkness looms under the bright lights of a seemingly haunted television set in a film that is best when it dives headfirst into the unknown.
David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad) headlines one of the most talked about horror movies of 2024: Late Night with the Devil. Directed by filmmaking duo Colin and Cameron Cairnes, the found-footage flick captures the recording of the October 31, 1977, episode of the late-night talk show « Night Owls with Jack Delory. » Hoping to gain big ratings, the host, Jack Delroy (Dastmalchian), invites a young girl named Lilly (Ingrid Torelli) who claims that she is possessed. Of course, things go haywire, giving Jack and his audience a night they’ll never forget, as much as they may want to.
